Campaign Update #1 ~ 28 May 2013
Twenty-eight days to go and we are still keen for you to join us in Canberra as part of our “We’re Still Here!” campaign. Since this year is an election year, it is the perfect time to make our voices heard.
So far we have 20 campaign heroes joining with Polio Australia in Canberra on Wednesday 26th June. Last year we had 60 campaigners, so let’s try and beat that number!
What are we doing in Canberra? Check the Program for the day.
For those of you who don’t know us already, we’d like to introduce you to our campaign Team Leader!
John Tierney PhD OAM
As the President of Polio Australia and a polio survivor, John has all the necessary knowledge to be in this role. John was a senator for NSW therefore is the perfect figure to be leading us when we head to Parliament in Canberra on the 26th of June. Read more about John, and the rest of our campaign organising ‘team’ here.
This new “We’re Still Here!” campaign website is the portal through which polio survivors, their family members and friends can contribute. We want you all to engage with the website and with Polio Australia.
Tell us your stories about how your lives have been affected by polio and leave messages for those who have already done so.
If you are not able to join us in Canberra, we encourage you to contact your local Federal Member of Parliament. We need all Australian polio survivors to invite their Parliamentary representatives to acknowledge and support that the work being done by Polio Australia receives long-overdue recognition and funding.
Become part of the ‘polio family tree’ and download an orange leaf – print it off, write your name on it, and send it to your local Federal Member, letting them know that Polio Australia would be pleased to add them to our list of Parliamentarians to invite to Morning Tea or pay a personal visit on Wednesday 26th June. And do let us know who you have contacted!
Don’t know your Parliamentary representative? Find contact details for all Federal Members of Parliament here.
Contact Mary-ann for more information and/or to add your name to the list of campaign heroes heading to Canberra!
